After accepting a jet from a foreign government and investing billions in taxpayer funds to modify it, the President discovered the aircraft still lacked security for use. Despite this, Trump intends to retain the jet, drawing attention from Senate Democrats committed to ensuring he does not take it when he leaves office.
According to Sen. Chris Murphy’s (D-CT) office:
U.S. Senator Chris Murphy (D-Conn.), a member of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee, along with U.S. Senators Angela Alsobrooks (D-Md.), Richard Blumenthal (D-Conn.), Tammy Duckworth (D-Ill.), Dick Durbin (D-Ill.), Mazie Hirono (D-Hawaii), Ed Markey (D-Mass.), Jeff Merkley (D-Ore.), Adam Schiff (D-Calif.), and Chris Van Hollen (D-Md.), have introduced legislation to prevent President Trump from taking the luxury jumbo jet, gifted by the Qatari government, for personal use after his term.
Trump’s administration has been marked by numerous allegations of corruption and impeachable acts. The acceptance and intended retention of this jet are viewed by some as another offense needing intervention.
