Denver and Lakewood Prepare Severe Weather Shelters as Temperatures Plummet

Denver and Lakewood city leaders are taking proactive measures as temperatures are expected to drop significantly, reaching the coldest point of the season, with forecasts predicting temperatures to be 10 to 15 degrees below normal.

Denver will have three additional shelters open from 1 p.m. on Tuesday until 11 a.m. on Wednesday. Individuals in need of shelter can visit designated locations:

  • Men – Denver Rescue Mission’s Lawrence Street Community Center, 2222 Lawrence St.
  • Women – Samaritan House, 2301 Lawrence St.
  • Youth (ages 15 to 20) – Urban Peak, 1630 Acoma St.
  • Families – Contact the Connection Center at 303-295-3366.

Additional shelters will be available at the former Best Western hotel at 4595 Quebec St., 2601 W. Seventh Ave., and 375 S. Zuni St.

Lakewood’s severe weather shelter will operate from 7 p.m. on Tuesday to 7 a.m. on Wednesday at 8000 W. Colfax Ave. for individuals 18 years and older. No reservations are required, and the shelter is pet-friendly.
