Denver Summit FC Announces Inaugural Home Opener at Empower Field
Denver Summit FC is gearing up for its first home match, set to make history in the NWSL. The expansion club revealed that its inaugural home opener will take place at Empower Field on March 28, 2026. The Saturday match, scheduled for noon, will see Denver FC face off against an as-yet-unannounced opponent. Broadcast details for the game will be disclosed at a later date. While the 2025 NWSL season kicks off a few weeks earlier, Denver FC will play its initial games on the road before returning home for this momentous occasion.
The club is aiming to fill the 76,125-seat stadium for the match, with hopes of breaking the single-game attendance record in NWSL history. The current record stands at 40,091 spectators for a match held at Oracle Park in San Francisco, and Summit FC president Jen Millet is optimistic about surpassing this milestone. With a season ticket deposit list already reaching 16,000, members of Club 5280 will have priority access to tickets for the Empower Field showdown.
As the team awaits the completion of its temporary venue, a 12,000-seat modular stadium in Centennial expected in April, contingency plans are in place for subsequent home matches. Discussions are underway with other local stadiums to ensure a seamless transition if the Centennial venue is not ready in time.
Looking ahead, Summit FC has its sights set on a new 14,500-seat stadium at Santa Fe Yards in Denver by 2028. The project, approved by the Denver City Council in May, will require $70 million in tax dollars and further approvals to proceed. The club is excited for the future as it continues to grow and thrive in the Denver community.
