DeSantis doesn’t rule out a 2028 presidential run: ‘We’ll see’

Florida Governor Ron DeSantis has not dismissed the possibility of another presidential bid, as revealed in a recent discussion with Fox News host Sean Hannity.

When Hannity directly inquired if DeSantis would consider running for president again, the Republican governor from the Sunshine State replied, “We’ll see.”

DeSantis, aged 47, is restricted by term limits and is set to leave office in January 2027, which is approximately a year before the 2028 presidential primaries commence.

The governor was previously considered a strong contender against Donald Trump in the 2024 Republican primaries. However, he withdrew from the race following a second-place finish in the Iowa caucuses, where Trump led by about 30 percentage points.

DeSantis contended that without Trump in the 2024 race, he would have secured the majority of Trump’s supporters. “In 2024, like in Iowa, the people that voted for Trump – if he wasn’t running – I would’ve gotten like 90% of those people,” he stated on the “Hang Out with Sean Hannity” podcast.

“They were conservative voters, right?” DeSantis added. “They didn’t want the non-conservative – they wanted me.”

“The timing didn’t work out, obviously, for that,” he remarked.

According to recent polls for the 2028 Republican presidential primaries, Vice President JD Vance is leading significantly. An Echelon Insights survey from last week indicated Vance has 40% support.

The same survey placed Secretary of State Marco Rubio in second place with 16% support.

DeSantis garnered only 5% support, trailing Donald Trump Jr., who received 9% backing.

A Saint Anselm College Survey Center poll of New Hampshire primary voters also showed DeSantis at 5% support, tying with former South Carolina Governor Nikki Haley. In this poll, Vance led with 46% support, followed by Rubio with 27%, according to the results released on Monday.

Hannity’s full interview with DeSantis will air on Tuesday.
