“Detective Daji” Set to Launch at Asia TV Forum and Market

A new supernatural crime series titled “Detective Daji” is set to make its debut as a project at the upcoming Asia TV Forum and Market (ATF) in Singapore. The U.S.-Taiwanese show follows the story of Detective Daji Su, a female police officer who is murdered in the line of duty. However, she is given a second chance at life when she is resurrected by an ancient Fox Demon who seeks revenge and aims to reclaim her rightful place in the demonic world.

The concept for “Detective Daji” was created by American screenwriter Todd DeBonis, known for works such as “The Monkey King’s Daughter” and “The Nine-Tailed Fox.” The pilot episode screenplay was developed by Sarso Chou, DeBonis, Steve Chicorel, and Samantha Kao Lin-shiu from Organic Media Group in Taiwan.

The show is expected to consist of eight one-hour episodes and will feature Taiwanese star Kuo Hsueh-Fu, also known as Puff Kuo. Production will be handled by Organic Media Group based in Taipei and Los Angeles, along with Taiwan’s Sarso Entertainment.

As a finalist for the ATF Mediacorp Drama Concepts & Co-production Pitch 2024, “Detective Daji” will compete against four other projects. The selected finalist must present a 10-minute English language pitch and visual presentation on December 5th at Marina Bay Sands Hotel in Singapore, with the chance to win a cash prize of S$10,000 ($7,460).

Despite the competition excluding Singaporean production companies, the team behind “Detective Daji” is open to filming in Singapore to involve local crews. The show’s unique storyline and potential for international success have already garnered interest from Mediacorp for potential co-production and commissioning.

Featuring dual roles played by Puff Kuo, “Detective Daji” explores the balance between Detective Daji Su’s duty to protect life and Fox Daji’s need to feed on humans to sustain both characters. The production will incorporate elements such as martial arts, special effects, and fantasy themes, aiming for a TV-MA rating for graphic violence, crime, language, and sexual situations.

With a focus on creating a groundbreaking drama that can appeal to a global audience, the creators of “Detective Daji” are dedicated to delivering fresh, innovative content that can set new trends in the industry. The series is designed to be produced and filmed in various Asian locations, catering to a diverse audience and showcasing multicultural talent.

Stay tuned for more updates on “Detective Daji” as it prepares to captivate audiences with its thrilling storyline and dynamic characters.
