The Detroit Red Wings are reportedly considering moving on from Vladimir Tarasenko after just one season with the team. With Tarasenko set to enter the final year of his contract, he becomes an attractive target for contending teams looking to add a one-year rental to bolster their lineup.

Following a disappointing season that saw the Red Wings miss the playoffs and make a coaching change, the team is looking towards the future. At 33 years old, Tarasenko may not fit into their long-term plans, prompting the organization to explore potential trade opportunities to acquire assets that will benefit them beyond his tenure.

According to NHL insider David Pagnotta, the Red Wings are actively exploring the market for Tarasenko, who has played for five teams since his All-Star season in 2022-2023. Despite his age, Tarasenko still managed to contribute 33 points for the Red Wings last season, showcasing his value as a reliable player.

While Tarasenko may not be the scoring force he once was in his prime, he is still expected to draw interest from teams in need of a short-term offensive boost. With his contract expiring, Tarasenko presents an affordable option for teams looking to add depth to their lineup without a long-term commitment.

In a separate development, the Detroit Red Wings have emerged as potential contenders for star free agent Mitch Marner. The right wing is coming off a stellar season with the Toronto Maple Leafs, recording 102 points and leading his team on a deep playoff run.

Recent odds have suggested that the Red Wings have a chance of landing Marner, with the team possessing the financial flexibility to pursue a high-caliber talent like him. With approximately $21.3 million in projected cap space, the Red Wings could make a strong push for Marner, who is expected to command a significant contract in the range of $14 million.

Overall, the Detroit Red Wings are poised to make significant moves this offseason as they look to reshape their roster and compete for a playoff spot in the upcoming season. With the potential departure of Tarasenko and the pursuit of Marner, the team is positioning itself to make a splash in the NHL landscape.
