Dick Van Dyke defies the expectations of age, showcasing an impressive dedication to fitness!
The legendary Rick Springfield, at 76, recently shared a memorable moment via Instagram on September 26. The post captured a remarkable 99-year-old Van Dyke flexing his muscles at the gym with surprising vigor.
In a moment of humorous self-reflection, Springfield remarked, “I thought I was doing well at 76,” a playful nod to Van Dyke’s remarkable display of life and vitality.
“While filming an episode of Men’s Health, I was working out when I spotted none other than Dick Van Dyke giving it his all on every machine,” Springfield recounted. “Having lived in Malibu for about three decades, he’s not just a legendary actor, but an incredible human. I thought I was holding my own at 76, but Dick, after finishing his set, broke into a little dance step before I could leave! ❤️ Incredible!”
The star of Chitty Chitty Bang Bang has previously shared insights into his peppy workout routine, including on Ted Danson’s podcast, “Where Everybody Knows Your Name,” back in January 2025.
“Someone asked, ‘What do you attribute to your longevity and vigor?’” Van Dyke reflected. “I replied, ‘I’ve always exercised three days a week.’ We still go to the gym three days a week, and I believe that’s key.”
Danson, now 77, reminisced about often spotting Van Dyke at the gym, noting with amusement, “If I got there early, I would see you cycle through the weight machines, and rather than just walking to the next one, you’d dance!”
Danson added, “I observed this for weeks until I finally asked about your regimen, and you mentioned that after the gym, you’d swim laps and then indulge in a nap afterwards.”
Van Dyke affirmed that Danson’s recollections of his gym habits were spot-on, adding, “I also engage in stretching and yoga-style exercises, along with sit-ups. There are machines for almost every workout you can think of.”
As for Springfield, he previously discussed his own philosophy for maintaining fitness into his 70s, attributing his active lifestyle to his music career.
In the spirit of his zest for life, Van Dyke once said, “I exercise daily! Every time I perform with my band, it’s a two-hour aerobic exercise.” He humorously referred to fitness centers as “Planet Fitness whores,” likening them to the ubiquitous Holiday Inn — familiar no matter where you go.
Springfield also opened up about his youthful mentality, injecting humor into a sobering reality. “I still feel 20 at heart,” he stated, “but then reality hits when I remember I’m the same age as people who are facing the frailties of old age.”
