Diddy
Legal Battle Leads to Ex-Attorney’s Departure
Published
Diddy has parted ways with one of his attorneys, Anthony Ricco, as the legal team faced internal conflicts over the best defense strategy for the hip hop mogul’s upcoming federal trial.
Sources close to the situation revealed that a power struggle between lead attorney Marc Agnifilo and Anthony Ricco had been ongoing for months, ultimately leading to Ricco’s departure.
Ricco’s abrupt departure was announced on Friday, citing an inability to effectively defend Diddy without providing specific details on the reasons behind his exit.
The disagreement within the legal team revolved around the handling of the sex trafficking allegations in the federal indictment, with conflicting opinions on the defense strategy for the upcoming trial.
Lead attorney Agnifilo has vehemently denied the trafficking charges, arguing that the encounters in question were consensual and not related to prostitution. He has filed a motion to dismiss the specific count related to the Mann Act.
Ricco’s frustration stemmed from the lack of communication with Diddy regarding legal strategies, leading to his belief that he could no longer adequately represent the rapper.
Additionally, Ricco expressed concerns about the trial readiness by the scheduled start date of May 5, suggesting a request for more time, which was met with opposition from co-counsel and ultimately led to his departure.
Sources close to Diddy have downplayed Ricco’s departure, emphasizing the stability and effectiveness of lead defense attorneys Agnifilo and Teny Geragos throughout the legal proceedings.
Requests for comment from Diddy’s representatives have not been responded to at this time.
Agnifilo remains committed to proceeding to trial expeditiously, assuring the court that Ricco’s departure will not impede Diddy’s defense preparation.
