Talia Byre Unveils New Collection Inspired by Conversations and Nostalgia

As Archive rails filled with past pieces lined the corridors outside Talia Byre’s Hackney atelier, the designer was ready for something fresh. While her previous patterns and designs heavily influenced her latest collection, there was a noticeable evolution in her aesthetic.

One standout piece was the elongated Bolter bag, a signature design that has been dramatically lengthened to be carried over the shoulder or across the body. When someone suggested that it could fit a 2-liter bottle of water, Byre playfully responded, “or wine!”

“Results of conversations, I like that,” Byre mentioned during a preview of her new collection. Conversations play a significant role in her creative process, with discussions ranging from karaoke tracks to clothing preferences. The Fall collection was inspired by the women she grew up around, both real and fictional, resulting in what she described as “character dressing.” Notably, Bette Gordon’s 1983 film, Variety, schoolgirls, and her great aunt Lily were key influences in the collection.

Byre affectionately referred to one of her designs as the “lady captain,” a sunshine-yellow zip-up hoodie paired with a capped-sleeve knit and slouchy checked trousers. Each look in the collection correlated with different members of her team, showcasing a collaborative approach to design. Byre herself resonated with a wool midi-skirt featuring a satin insert and a slit at the back, styled with a blue knit and a striped jersey bomber jacket.

The collection also featured shirts inspired by traditional menswear silhouettes, ties reminiscent of school ties, and a crunchy nylon skirt with girlish pleats in an iron hue. Byre’s customers can expect new takes on her popular rugby jerseys, crew-necks, and her first foray into denim.

As models showcased the new pieces, Byre’s team noted that the collection would be well-received by customers. Pre-orders have already been made, indicating a strong demand for the new designs. The collection exudes a sense of ease and maturity, with a nod to teenage-hood.

With a focus on conversations, nostalgia, and a collaborative design process, Talia Byre’s latest collection is a testament to her creative vision and unique approach to fashion.
