Giddy up! Indie Animated Series “MechWest” Returns with Action-Packed Third Episode

The highly anticipated third episode of the indie animated series “MechWest” has finally been released, much to the delight of fans. The series, created by Dave Gallagher and produced by AnimSchool Studios, follows the adventures of Pearl, a compassionate young woman who forms a unique bond with robotic mechs in a steampunk Wild West setting. With over 10 million views on YouTube, “MechWest” has captured the hearts of viewers worldwide and is now looking for distribution partners to help bring the series to a larger audience.

In this latest episode, Pearl, along with her brother Pico and mech companion Six, find themselves in the seedy town of Centureno. As they navigate the dangers of the town, including shady characters and a corrupt sheriff, they also encounter a new ally, Casey, whose motives remain unclear.

As the creators prepare for their appearance at San Diego Comic-Con, Dave Gallagher and his co-director (and son) Noah Gallagher discuss the challenges and inspirations behind the latest episode of “MechWest.”

Episode 3 introduces the town of Centureno, described as a “wretched hive of scum and villainy.” What was the design inspiration for this setting?

Dave Gallagher: Centureno is meant to embody the grit and lawlessness of the Wild West. It’s a place where danger lurks around every corner, and our characters must tread carefully to survive.

Noah Gallagher: We wanted to showcase a different side of the world of Meridian, where the villains are closer to home. Centureno serves as a stark contrast to the more familiar surroundings our characters are used to.

The mechs in the saloon provide some light-hearted moments, such as the spit-bucket-bot. How did you come up with the idea for these unique mechs?

Noah Gallagher: We wanted to explore the concept of everyday objects being mechanized in the Wild West setting. The spit-bucket-bot was a fun addition that added a touch of humor to the scene, showcasing the creativity of the world we’ve built.

A pivotal moment in the episode is when Six defiantly removes his arm after being reminded that it was paid for by Casey. What was the inspiration behind this scene?

Dave Gallagher: The scene with Six removing his arm was a symbolic gesture of independence and self-awareness. It highlighted the complex dynamic between the characters and set the stage for future conflicts and revelations in the series.

The episode ends with the introduction of a new character and hints at a larger mystery unfolding. What can viewers expect in the upcoming episodes?

Dave Gallagher: The new character with her hummingbird mech will play a significant role in the rest of the season, adding depth to the overarching story arc. Viewers can look forward to more twists and turns as the plot thickens.

How much of the “MechWest” story have you planned out for future seasons?

Noah Gallagher: We have a roadmap for the first season, with scripts and storyboards already in progress. Additionally, we have concepts for future seasons mapped out, ensuring that the world of “MechWest” continues to evolve and expand with each new episode.

This interview has been edited and condensed for clarity.
