Disgraced former U.S. Representative George Santos is set to start serving a seven-year prison sentence on Friday for the fraud charges that led to his expulsion from Congress.

Last summer, the New York Republican pleaded guilty to federal wire fraud and aggravated identity theft charges for deceiving donors and stealing identities to fund his congressional campaign.

He is required to report to federal prison before 2 p.m., with a recommendation from a federal judge to be housed in a Northeast facility.

Despite repeated refusals to comment, Santos revealed in an interview with Al Arabiya that he anticipates serving his sentence in a minimum-security prison camp, viewing it as an upgrade from the medium-security facility initially designated for him.

As he prepares for his imprisonment, Santos bid farewell to his social media followers with a farewell party and reflective post, acknowledging his tumultuous journey from Congress to impending incarceration.

Despite expressing regret for his actions, Santos’ pleas for a lighter sentence were dismissed by a federal judge who questioned his sincerity. His downfall came after revelations of fabricating his background and using false information to bolster his political career.

Elected in 2022, Santos was one of the few House members to be expelled by colleagues due to his fraudulent activities. His campaign was built on lies about his past and achievements, leading to investigations that exposed the extent of his deception.

Since leaving office, Santos has turned to hosting a podcast and offering personalized video messages for income. He remains hopeful for clemency from President Trump but faces the reality of his impending incarceration.

In media interviews, Santos has expressed his fears about life in prison and has reassured his followers that he has no intentions of self-harm or inappropriate behavior during his time behind bars.
