Disney+ and Hulu Price Hikes Announced for 2025
It’s that time of year again: Disney has confirmed upcoming price increases for its Disney+ and Hulu subscription plans in the United States, set to take effect beginning next month.
The standalone Disney+ plan featuring ads will rise from $9.99 to $11.99 per month starting on October 21, 2025. In addition, the Disney+ Premium option, which is ad-free, will see an increase from $15.99 to $18.99 per month. Similarly, the standalone Hulu plan, which also includes ads, will jump from $9.99 to $11.99 per month; however, the ad-free Hulu Premium will remain at $18.99 monthly.
On the sports front, ESPN Select (previously known as ESPN+) will see a price increase as well, moving from $11.99 to $12.99 per month on the same date. Currently, the introductory bundle that combines Disney+, Hulu, and ESPN Unlimited is still available for $29.99 per month for the first 12 months.
A spokesperson for Disney, when contacted by Variety, opted not to comment further on the reasons behind the price increases. This marks the third time in three years that Disney has raised the subscription prices for its streaming services in the U.S., following similar hikes in October 2024 and October 2023. Notices about these adjustments were shared on Disney’s customer support sites earlier this week.
The increase in service costs comes at a time when many Disney+ and Hulu subscribers have recently expressed intentions to cancel their subscriptions. This sentiment avalanche followed the suspension of late-night host Jimmy Kimmel by Disney and ABC due to remarks he made about a controversial figure. The situation escalated significantly when the head of the FCC threatened investigations against ABC TV stations if they did not drop Kimmel’s show. Following this, local broadcasting companies like Nexstar Media and Sinclair announced they planned to preempt “Jimmy Kimmel Live!” Kimmel’s program is slated to return to ABC, but Nexstar and Sinclair have announced they will not air it for the time being as a form of protest.
This pricing strategy follows Disney’s recent completion of its full acquisition of Hulu from Comcast in June. Currently, Disney is working on integrating the two platforms, with plans to dissolve Hulu as a standalone service by 2026 and fully merge it into Disney+. However, Disney has assured users that both Disney+ and Hulu will still be available as separate subscription options.
