Disney+ has secured exclusive live streaming rights to the UEFA Women’s Champions League soccer tournament in Europe for the next five years, covering the seasons from 2025/26 to 2029/30. This agreement makes Disney+ the sole platform for all 75 matches in the competition, with coverage set to begin in October alongside the tournament’s new 18-team League phase format. Subscribers will be able to stream all matches live at no extra cost until the 2026 final at Ullevaal Stadion in Oslo.
ESPN will be responsible for production on Disney+, providing multi-language commentary and pre- and post-game programming. The sports network brings decades of broadcasting experience to the table, having recently added coverage of the UEFA Europa League and UEFA Conference League to Disney+ in Denmark and Sweden.
This deal expands Disney’s existing partnership with UEFA through the Playmakers program, which has introduced over 132,000 young girls to soccer in 46 countries since 2020. The initiative, now extended through 2027, involves nearly 8,000 coaches in nurturing the next generation of female soccer players.
Karl Holmes, general manager of Disney+ EMEA, expressed excitement about bringing the UEFA Women’s Champions League to Disney+ customers and audiences, highlighting the tournament’s excellence in performance, dedication, and passion.
In addition to the soccer streaming news, Disney+ has also announced the production of “Delusion” (working title), a live-action adaptation of the popular Naver webtoon. The series, set for exclusive release on Disney+ globally and Hulu in the U.S., follows the story of a vampire named Song Jeonghwa who finds new purpose when a mysterious painter named Iho enters her life. The series stars Suzy as Song Jeonghwa and Kim Seonho as Iho, with Han Jaerim directing.
This project is part of Disney+’s expanding Korean content lineup, joining other series like “Low Life” and “Tempest” featuring top Korean actors.
On a different note, Sky News has appointed Siobhan Sinnerton as creative director of Full Story Films, the broadcaster’s new long-form documentary production unit. Sinnerton, known for her work on critically acclaimed documentaries like the Emmy-winning “In Her Hands,” will oversee the editorial and creative strategy for the unit, which will produce news-adjacent films for streaming and television.
With a background in commissioning at Channel 4 and a track record of award-winning documentaries, Sinnerton aims to collaborate with the best directors, producers, and editors in the U.K. and Ireland to create powerful and emotionally engaging films that resonate with audiences. This move aligns with Sky News’ commitment to quality journalism and storytelling, leveraging its extensive archive and partnerships with top documentary talent.
