A man who was in the midst of a divorce fatally stabbed his mother-in-law and injured his teenage brother-in-law before inflicting self-harm and igniting a fire in their Queens residence on Thursday, according to law enforcement and insider reports.
The 27-year-old suspect reportedly attacked his 50-year-old mother-in-law and her 17-year-old son repeatedly with a knife inside their home on Smart Street near 45th Avenue in Flushing shortly before 4 p.m., as stated by authorities and sources.
The injured individuals were transported to NewYork Presbyterian Hospital, where the critically injured mother-in-law later died from her wounds, and the teenager was reported to be in stable condition.
The suspect was also taken to the hospital and is currently in police custody, as per the sources. A dozen members of the FDNY and EMS responded to the scene, with the fire being extinguished by approximately 4:40 p.m., according to the department.
Fire marshals were dispatched to investigate the incident, the FDNY confirmed.
