Controversy Surrounding Jeffrey Epstein’s Cause of Death
On August 11, 2019, the world was shocked to learn of the death of Jeffrey Epstein, a wealthy financier who was awaiting trial on s– trafficking charges. His autopsy was conducted by Dr. Kristin Roman, the New York City medical examiner, with Dr. Michael Baden, hired by Epstein’s brother, Mark, present as an observer.
During the autopsy, Dr. Baden leaned towards the conclusion that Epstein’s death was a homicide, while Dr. Roman remained undecided. She did not categorize the cause of death as either “homicide” or “suicide,” instead marking it as “pending studies.”
Five days later, Dr. Roman’s supervisor, Dr. Barbara Sampson, officially ruled Epstein’s death as a suicide after a thorough review of all investigative information. This decision sparked numerous conspiracy theories, with many speculating that Epstein had been murdered in a cover-up.
It wasn’t until four years later that it was revealed that Dr. Roman ultimately agreed with her boss’s ruling. The Justice Department inspector general’s office released a report confirming the cause of death as suicide, putting an end to the speculation surrounding Epstein’s demise.
