In January of this year, a Pitbull-Boxer mix named Andre was found abandoned in a park in Atlanta, with a heartfelt letter from his previous owner.
A kind couple temporarily took care of the five-year-old dog, but unfortunately couldn’t provide a permanent home for him, as reported by PEOPLE.
To seek help, they shared a photo of Andre on Facebook, displaying the message left by his previous owner attached to his collar.
Tara Borelli, a nonprofit attorney, came across the Facebook post about Andre, who was abandoned near a well-known park in Atlanta during a snowstorm in late January.
Despite the weather warnings to stay indoors, Ms. Borelli felt compelled to assist. “A note was pinned to Andre’s collar when he was discovered tied up in a garden near Piedmont Park,” she told PEOPLE.
The note revealed that Andre’s owner, who was homeless, had no one to care for him and pleaded for someone to be kind to the dog.
Ms. Borelli believed that the owner left Andre at the park for visibility, hoping that someone would rescue him and provide safety.
Despite knowing she couldn’t keep Andre permanently due to her own dog’s health issues, Ms. Borelli cared for him for several months.
Eventually, in April, she made the tough decision to place Andre in a shelter to find him a forever home.
With the collaboration of Fulton County Animal Services and local animal advocates, Andre was on his way to finding a new family, according to PEOPLE.
In early May, Andre’s gentle demeanor and the community’s support led him to a new home in Atlanta, where a family will foster him for a trial period of a month.
If all goes well, Andre will be officially adopted into his new loving home.
