The Don Lemon Show Faces Turmoil as Don Lemon is Arrested

The Don Lemon Show may not have its anchor, Don Lemon, at the moment, but that doesn’t mean the program has come to a standstill. A group of prominent creators, influencers, and media figures took over Lemon’s YouTube channel on Friday, urging viewers – who call themselves “Lemon Heads” – to show their support for the journalist. This comes after Lemon was arrested and charged with federal civil rights crimes for attempting to live-stream a protest at a church service in Minnesota earlier in January. Lemon was arrested in Los Angeles and is scheduled to appear in court later in the day. Other individuals, including Minnesota journalist Georgia Fort, were also arrested on similar charges.

Katie Phang, who was hosting an hour of The Don Lemon Show on Friday afternoon, emphasized the importance of not being scared and encouraged viewers to subscribe to Lemon’s media properties. The show featured discussions with Tim Miller from The Bulwark and other guests, highlighting the gravity of the situation.

The screen displayed a constant chyron reading “Breaking: Don Lemon Arrested,” as Lemon’s YouTube channel provided rolling coverage of his arrest. The lineup of appearances included comedian DL Hughley, Joy Reid, Wajahat Ali, Jim Acosta, Anthony Scaramucci, and Olivia Troye.

Since leaving CNN in 2023, Lemon has dedicated his efforts to leading an independent media operation, engaging with audiences on platforms like YouTube, TikTok, and Instagram. He has embraced reinvention and learning new things, feeling more connected to the culture and zeitgeist than ever before.

Lemon had been in Los Angeles for work related to the Grammys, part of his strategy to cover live events. Despite uncertainties, he successfully hosted a New Year’s Eve show from New Orleans, showcasing his ability to adapt and pivot in his career.

Following Lemon’s arrest, a wave of support has emerged from CNN and other parties, expressing concern over the federal government’s prosecution of journalists. The ACLU issued a statement condemning the actions, warning of the chilling effect it could have on press freedom.

The Don Lemon Show may be facing challenges in light of recent events, but the outpouring of support and determination to uphold journalistic integrity remain unwavering. Stay tuned for further developments on this evolving story.
