In recent news, Donald Trump claimed that Chinese President Xi Jinping had reached out to him, despite denials from Beijing. The US president also stated that he had secured “200 deals” on trade, although no official announcements have been made regarding such agreements.

During an interview with Time Magazine, Trump asserted that he had been in contact with various countries and had successfully negotiated numerous trade deals. However, sources familiar with the situation in both Washington and Beijing disputed Trump’s claims, stating that Xi had not actually called the US president.

The White House has yet to respond to inquiries regarding Trump’s statements. Despite the lack of concrete evidence to support his claims, Trump remains confident in the success of his supposed trade deals. He hinted that these agreements could be revealed in the coming weeks.

As Trump departed for Rome to attend the funeral of Pope Francis, he declined to elaborate on his discussions with Xi, particularly in light of the ongoing trade tensions between the US and China. Since his return to the White House in January, Trump has made several assertions about diplomatic exchanges with China that have been met with skepticism.

While Trump has hinted at a potential visit from Xi in the near future, sources close to the matter have refuted these claims. Additionally, Chinese officials have emphasized the importance of reaching a tentative agreement before engaging in further negotiations with the US.

Despite the uncertainty surrounding Trump’s statements, he remains steadfast in his belief that he holds the power to dictate terms in the global marketplace. As the gatekeeper of the US consumer market, Trump sees himself as setting the prices and calling the shots on behalf of the American people.
