Washington:
President-elect Donald Trump has made it clear that he will not be re-appointing former Secretary of State Mike Pompeo and former UN Ambassador Nikki Haley to his new administration. In a post on his Truth Social network, Trump stated that neither Pompeo nor Haley will be joining his team as speculation mounts about the composition of his new cabinet.
Recently, Pompeo proposed a tough stance on Ukraine, advocating for increased weapons transfers and strong action against Russia’s energy sector. This position was in contrast to Trump’s previous statements during his campaign.
Trump has expressed confidence in his ability to end the conflict in Ukraine within the first 24 hours of his presidency and has criticized American aid to Kyiv in its conflict with Russia.
While Haley initially ran against Trump in the Republican primary before endorsing him, she has offered candid advice to the president, including telling him to “quit whining” about Democratic candidate Kamala Harris.
In his statement on Saturday, Trump expressed his appreciation for working with Pompeo and Haley in the past and thanked them for their service to the country.
So far, Trump has only made one cabinet appointment, naming his campaign manager Susie Wiles as his White House chief of staff. Wiles, who Trump affectionately calls “ice baby” for her cool demeanor, is the first woman to hold this important role in the White House.
