Ryan Michael “Reily” English Arrested for Attempted Assassination on Capitol Grounds

Massachusetts resident Ryan Michael “Reily” English has been charged with possession of a firearm (specifically Molotov cocktails) and carrying an explosive on Capitol grounds.

English surrendered himself to a Capitol Police officer at the South entrance, revealing his initial plan to target Hegseth and Johnson, referring to them as “Nazis,” with the intention to “depose” them. However, English later shifted his focus to the treasury secretary, Bessent, after reading online about his confirmation.

According to the arrest warrant, English admitted to planning to throw vodka-filled Molotov cocktails at Bessent’s feet and potentially stabbing him if he got close enough. The suspect acknowledged that his actions would likely lead to a confrontation with police, resulting in a potential “suicide by cop” situation.

Capitol Police found a receipt in English’s possession, containing a letter addressed to a woman in which he expressed remorse for his anticipated actions, citing a possible heart ailment and apologizing for his deceitful behavior. The letter read, “Fuck them for pushing us so far. you don’t deserve this. i’m so sorry for lying and plotting and lying.”

English’s legal representative did not provide a response to a request for comment from JS.
