Drake Urges Governor Newsom to Pardon Tory Lanez

Drake is using his platform to advocate for the release of his friend Tory Lanez, who is currently serving a 10-year sentence. The rapper took to Instagram to share a change.org petition calling on California Governor Gavin Newsom to pardon Tory Lanez.
The petition argues that Tory’s conviction lacked sufficient physical evidence and suggests that he was unfairly sentenced. More than 250,000 people have signed the petition, urging Governor Newsom to correct what they see as a deep injustice and to remove politically motivated sentencing enhancements.
Tory Lanez was convicted in 2023 for allegedly shooting Megan Thee Stallion in the foot in July 2020. Despite being sentenced in state court, Governor Newsom has the power to pardon him.
Recent events have brought renewed attention to Tory Lanez’s case after he was reportedly stabbed 14 times in prison by a fellow inmate. He received treatment at a medical facility in Bakersfield before being returned to the prison hospital.
Drake’s support for Tory Lanez is evident, but it remains to be seen whether Governor Newsom will take action in response to the petition. Stay tuned for updates on this developing story.
