Hit-and-Run Driver Strikes Man in Chicago Parking Lot

Last week in the Morgan Park neighborhood of Chicago, a disturbing incident unfolded when a driver purposefully struck a 45-year-old man during a confrontation in a parking lot, dragging him beneath the vehicle before fleeing the scene, according to Chicago police.

The tragic event took place at approximately 4:48 p.m. on November 17 in the 11700 block of South Marshfield Avenue. Initially reported as a traffic accident with injuries, responding officers found the victim severely injured and unresponsive in the middle of the lot. Despite efforts by paramedics, the man tragically succumbed to his injuries.

According to a witness statement, the victim engaged in a verbal dispute with the driver of a van before being struck. The van reportedly moved forward, causing the man to fall beneath it. The driver then proceeded to drive through the parking lot with the victim trapped under the vehicle, dragging him across the pavement and ultimately running him over with the rear tires.

Police analysis of surveillance footage from a nearby store revealed the victim exiting a silver Ford pickup truck moments before the altercation. The driver of the van, following the collision, fled the scene without rendering aid, heading westbound through the lot.

The van is described as likely having damage to its front grill area and undercarriage. Authorities suspect that the vehicle may have been taken to a repair shop immediately after the hit-and-run incident.

Individuals with any information pertaining to this case are urged to contact Major Accident Investigation Unit detectives at 312-745-4521 or submit an anonymous tip at CPDTIP.com using reference number JJ493013.
