Director Carter Addresses Global Drug Issues at the United Nations

Vienna, Austria – In a significant appearance at the 69th session of the United Nations’ Commission on Narcotic Drugs (CND), ONDCP Director Sara Carter delivered a compelling National Statement on behalf of the United States. This commission, comprising 53 member states, is dedicated to tackling the pervasive challenges posed by the global drug trade. During her address, Director Carter emphasized the proactive measures taken by President Trump in the ongoing battle against the criminal organizations that thrive on the illegal drug market and contribute to the tragic loss of hundreds of thousands of American lives.

“Under the leadership of President Trump, we are not just saving lives; we are intensifying our collective global efforts against the ravages of drug-related crimes,” Director Carter asserted in her statement. “This gathering presents a vital opportunity for nations to unite in the fight against narcotics, targeting not only the drugs themselves but also the funding networks, the political allies that enable them, and the blatant disregard for law and order that terrorizes our citizens. Our strength lies in our collaboration, our adherence to the law, and the commitment of our citizens to dismantle these devastating enterprises. If we genuinely aspire to a world of peace and healthy communities, we must not allow the malignant forces that threaten our well-being to flourish unchecked.”

Throughout her National Statement, Director Carter also pointed to the alarming issue of chemical precursors sourced from countries like China. “We are acutely aware of the origins of these chemical precursors; they are produced in staggering quantities in China,” she noted. While attending the CND, Director Carter engaged with representatives from various nations to galvanize support for dismantling the operations of narcotraffickers.
