The popular celebrity news show, “E! News,” is once again facing cancellation. The show is set to air its final episode on September 25th on the E! network before it is folded into the new publicly traded company, Versant (formerly known as SpinCo). This decision comes three years after the show was brought back from a two-year hiatus in 2020.

The cancellation of “E! News” is a strategic move by the E! network to focus more on digital and social media platforms. With the rise in demand for real-time news coverage online, the 11 p.m. time slot that “E! News” currently occupies is no longer deemed as effective for reaching the audience. E! has a strong digital presence with 87 million followers across various social media platforms.

While Thursday’s episode of “E! News” will be a repeat, new episodes will resume the following week. The approximately 20 employees working on the show were informed of the cancellation on Thursday morning. Some of the correspondents from “E! News” are expected to transition to roles within Versant.

Despite the cancellation of “E! News,” E! network will continue to air original series such as “Botched Presents: Plastic Surgery Rewind” and “Honestly Cavallari: The Headline Tour.” They have also announced new upcoming series like “Kimora: Back in the Fab Lane” and “E!’s Dirty Rotten Scandals.” Additionally, E! will still cover Hollywood red carpet events with their show “Live From E!” The network will also be airing the Critics Choice Awards on January 4th.

Overall, while the cancellation of “E! News” marks the end of an era for the show, E! network is moving towards a more digital-centric approach to entertainment news coverage. Fans can still expect to see their favorite celebrities and pop culture news on E!’s various platforms in the future.
