When Easy A hit screens on September 17, 2010, it brought more than just a ray of sunshine into viewersâ lives.
The film, which draws inspiration from The Scarlet Letter, features Emma Stone as Olive Penderghast, a teen shunned by her peers, who fabricates a tale about losing her virginity. As this rumor engulfs her high school, causing her to gain a scandalous reputation, Oliveâwho is actually reading Nathaniel Hawthorneâs classicâdecides to relish the notoriety, likening her experiences to those of the novelâs Hester Prynne.
Stone shines alongside a vibrant cast, including Penn Badgley, Amanda Bynes, Aly Michalka, Lisa Kudrow, Stanley Tucci, and others.
Easy A marked a significant leap for Stone, catapulting her to stardom and garnering her first Golden Globe nomination. It also snagged the award for Best Comedy Film at the 2011 Critics Choice Awards.

Amanda Bynes
Interestingly, Easy A marked Bynesâ swan song as an actress, as she retired shortly after its release. Facing an array of personal challenges including mental health struggles and legal troubles, Bynesâ mother sought conservatorship on her behalf in 2013, which concluded in 2022. Although she has reinvented herself academically, earning a degree from the Fashion Institute of Design and Merchandising, she announced plans to join OnlyFans in April 2025âpromising no risquĂ© content, to the surprise of many.
Bynes has been in a turbulent relationship with Paul Michael, which has seen its share of ups and downs since 2020.
