Violence Erupts at NBA YoungBoy Concert: Elderly Usher Assaulted

An incident of shocking violence unfolded during an NBA YoungBoy concert at the T-Mobile Center in Kansas City, where a 66-year-old usher was brutally attacked by a teenager in front of a crowd of concertgoers.

The victim, Thomas Schlange, was performing his duties when he approached the teen and requested that he vacate a seat that was not assigned to him. As reported by Fox 4 News, this simple request escalated into a violent confrontation.

During the concert at Kansas City’s T-Mobile Center, usher Thomas Schlange was attacked after reminding a teen to sit in his assigned area.

Video captured by a bystander shows the teenager losing control, violently hurling Schlange into nearby seats. Following the initial attack, Schlange attempted to regain his footing, only to be confronted again by the enraged teen, who stood over him. Despite Schlange raising his arm in defense, the assailant continued to land powerful punches to the elderly man’s head.

Recalling the harrowing experience, Schlange expressed, “All I remember is the rage of this kid and the need to find safety.” He continued, “It is serious; I went down and had blows to my head. He was simply so enraged, and we were trying to protect the audience.”

Law enforcement responded promptly, arresting the teen shortly after the incident. However, due to his juvenile status, he was released back to his parents as the investigation continues. The Kansas City Police Department confirmed the assailant is under the age of 16, and the specific charges he may face remain unclear.

After the assault, Schlange raised his arm for protection, but the teen continued striking him without restraint.

Following the attack, Schlange was hospitalized with non-life-threatening injuries. After nearly two decades of service, he never anticipated experiencing such violence in his workplace.

“The message here is that we, as young adults, must learn to manage our anger,” Schlange noted, emphasizing the need for emotional control.

Schlange is set for a follow-up meeting with police this coming Friday as investigations progress.

T-Mobile Center spokesperson Shani Tate Ross described the attack as “horrific” and “unacceptable,” reaffirming that such violent actions do not represent either the venue or the positive experience expected by concert attendees. “Violence of any kind is unacceptable at T-Mobile Center,” Ross stated.

In light of this incident, concerns surrounding youth violence and event safety have intensified. Kansas City Mayor Quinton Lucas’s office condemned the actions, encouraging the public to report any further incidents of violence occurring during the concert. “Concerts, sporting events, and community gatherings should be places of joy and connection, not fear or harm,” the mayor’s office specified in a statement to Fox 4 News.

Additionally, the T-Mobile Center pledged to collaborate with local law enforcement and community leaders to ensure the assailants are held accountable for their actions.

As a direct consequence of the events in Kansas City, the United Center in Chicago has canceled an upcoming NBA YoungBoy concert scheduled for Wednesday. Although the venue did not specify the reasons for the cancellation, it stands as a stark reminder of the implications of the violence that erupted in Kansas City.

The Baton Rouge rapper, currently on his “MASA Tour,” is experiencing his first tour in five years, making this incident all the more disheartening for fans hoping for a safe and enjoyable show.
