An elderly motorist, potentially suffering a stroke, struck three pedestrians in Brooklyn, resulting in the death of an 89-year-old woman and injuries to two others on a sidewalk on Wednesday, according to police reports and sources.

The 86-year-old driver was reversing his Chrysler Town and Country SUV when he veered onto the sidewalk, colliding with pedestrians at the intersection of Neptune Avenue and W. 6th St. around 12:51 PM in Coney Island, authorities stated.

“I witnessed the man back up and hit them; I was screaming,” shared a shocked eyewitness with Pix 11.

“As I approached, I recognized one of the women. It could have easily been me,” they added.

The injured 89-year-old woman was immediately taken to NYU Langone Hospital but sadly could not be saved.

Two other women—a 43-year-old and a 75-year-old—were transported to Maimonides Medical Center and are currently in stable condition.

“They were covered in blood. It was horrific,” recounted the witness.

“One woman was crying out in unbearable pain.”

Authorities have not pressed charges against the elderly driver.

Sources indicated that he may have experienced a stroke at the time of the incident and remained at the location following the crash.
