Elizabeth Olsen Returns as Scarlet Witch in Marvel Zombies

Elizabeth Olsen is making her comeback as the iconic Scarlet Witch, albeit in a different capacity—providing her voice for the highly anticipated Disney+ animated series, “Marvel Zombies.” This four-episode series serves as a spinoff from “What If…?“, set in a haunting universe overrun by zombies, including some beloved Avengers.

Olsen is joined by a dynamic cast of returning Marvel actors, featuring Paul Rudd as Ant-Man, Iman Vellani as Ms. Marvel, Simu Liu as Shang-Chi, among others. During her appearance at L.A. Comic Con, Olsen humorously reflected on her experience recording for the show, expressing disbelief over how little she remembers: “I truly recorded that years ago. I have no idea what [happens in] ‘Marvel Zombies.’” She also shared that her recordings took place at home, suggesting a less traditional setup during the pandemic years.

Olsen introduced her character, Scarlet Witch, in a post-credits scene from the 2014 film “Captain America: The Winter Soldier“. Her role was solidified with a significant appearance in 2015’s “Avengers: Age of Ultron“, and she has since starred in a myriad of blockbuster hits such as “Avengers: Infinity War” and “Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness“. A standout moment in her career came with the Disney+ series “WandaVision“, earning her an Emmy nomination.

As of now, Olsen’s last on-screen portrayal of Scarlet Witch occurred in “Doctor Strange“, where the character underwent a dramatic transformation into a villain. The film concluded with Scarlet Witch seemingly trapped under a fallen building, leaving audiences uncertain about her fate. Neither Olsen nor Marvel have provided updates on her next appearance, and she has not been listed in the cast for next year’s “Avengers: Doomsday.”

Olsen’s Perspective on Her Character’s Future

In a candid interview from last year, Olsen revealed her openness to reprise her role as Scarlet Witch under the right circumstances. “It’s a character that I love going back to when there’s a way to use her well,” she stated, emphasizing the importance of thoughtful storytelling for her character. “People didn’t know what to do with me for a second there. … If there’s a good way to use her I’m always happy to come back,” she added, highlighting her commitment to contributing positively to the story.
