Tech entrepreneur Elon Musk has pledged a $10 million donation to Senate Republican candidate Nate Morris in the closely watched race to succeed Sen. Mitch McConnell in Kentucky, as reported by Axios.
The substantial donation was made to a super PAC supporting Morris and is the largest contribution Musk has made to a federal candidate other than President Trump.
Morris, the founder of Rubicon and a former waste and recycling industry leader who sold his company for $2 billion, is vying against Rep. Andy Barr and former Kentucky Attorney General Daniel Cameron for McConnell’s Senate seat.
Musk was reportedly impressed with Morris’ business background and his anti-establishment, anti-McConnell stance after a recent conversation with the candidate.
Morris has been vocal in his “anti-McConnell” messaging, criticizing the senator’s actions towards Trump and labeling other candidates as “puppets” of McConnell.
Barr has outraised Morris in campaign funds, but Morris has pledged to continue loaning money to his campaign leading up to the Republican primary on May 19.
Musk, who had previously hinted at reducing his political spending, has re-engaged with supporting the GOP in the midterms, emphasizing the dangers of the radical left gaining power.
So far in this election cycle, Musk has contributed to various PACs supporting Trump and Republican candidates, including a $45 million donation to his own America PAC.
The Senate race in Kentucky remains competitive, with Morris facing challenges from both sides and support from notable figures such as Steve Bannon and Bernie Moreno.
Trump has not made an endorsement in the GOP primary race, and the competition continues to heat up as the election draws near.
Representatives for Daniel Cameron’s campaign have not responded to requests for comments on the developments in the Senate race.
