Schuyler Weiss, the producer behind the Oscar-nominated blockbuster “Elvis,” will conduct a masterclass in collaboration with the Motion Picture Association and Digital Hollywood University. Weiss is also slated to be a guest speaker for TIFFCOM’s pitching contest, where the contest winner will earn a coveted trip to Los Angeles for the Global Film & Television Immersion Program.
In terms of international collaboration, Choi Yoonhee, the CEO of Barunson E&A and the producer of “Parasite,” will team up with Shinya Kawai, renowned for works like “Swallowtail Butterfly” and “Yi Yi: A One and a Two.” Together, they will outline actionable strategies for fostering successful international co-productions. Additional initiatives include a Japan-Korea producers exchange, organized by VIPO and KOFIC, which will introduce ten handpicked producers from both nations.
Japanese broadcasters are slated to share their global strategies through BEAJ’s presentation, “Japanese Broadcast Content Goes Global,” featuring key players like Wowow, Ax-On, ABC TV, NHK Enterprises, and TV Miyazaki. Nippon TV will present its ambitious “Gear up, go global” campaign, while TBS will highlight its partnership with Vietnam’s VTV and the activities of its studio The Seven, which is behind hit series “Alice in Borderland” Season 3 and the Busan competition entry “Baka’s Identity.”
Animation stands front and center as the Association of Japanese Animations reveals new insights from its 2024 industry survey, complemented by case studies showcasing successful overseas expansion. A collaborative panel between Hong Kong and Japan will include notable figures like director Raman Hui, producer Polly Yeung, and Bliss Concepts’ Samuel Choy.
Other engaging highlights encompass the global emergence of Thai BL and GL dramas, a presentation by China’s Huace Film & TV showcasing premium content, a Shanghai display of cinematic productions, a JETRO seminar focusing on Turkish remakes, and KOCCA’s premiere of K-dramas, including “Love Phobia” and “Someday of Me.”
TIFFCOM is organized under the auspices of Japan’s Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry, the Ministry of Internal Affairs and Communications, and Unijapan.
