Emma Thompson recently shared a surprising story about an encounter she had with Donald Trump. During a masterclass at the Locarno Film Festival in Switzerland, Thompson claimed that Trump once asked her out on a date.
The incident allegedly took place while Thompson was filming the 1998 movie “Primary Colors” in Los Angeles. She received a phone call in her trailer from Trump, who invited her to stay in one of his properties and have dinner. Thompson was taken aback by the unexpected invitation, especially since her divorce had just been finalized on the same day. She jokingly remarked that Trump must have had people searching for suitable dates for him, as he even managed to find her trailer number.
This is not the first time Thompson has recounted the story. In a previous interview on the Scandinavian TV show “Skavlan,” she mentioned that she was unsure how to respond to Trump’s offer and simply thanked him before ending the call.
At the time of Trump’s invitation, both he and Thompson were navigating the aftermath of failed marriages. Trump had recently divorced Marla Maples and had not yet met Melania Knauss, while Thompson had split from her ex-husband Kenneth Branagh in 1995 due to his infidelity.
Reflecting on her past experiences, Thompson admitted that she was blindsided by Branagh’s affairs and the deception that occurred during their marriage. She later found love with Greg Wise, whom she married in 2003 after meeting him on the set of “Sense & Sensibility” in 1995.
Thompson’s candid revelations about her personal life shed light on the complexities of relationships and the challenges of navigating love and trust. Despite past hardships, she has found happiness in her second marriage and continues to thrive in both her personal and professional life.
