Susan Lucci, best known for her role as Erica Kane on the long-running soap opera “All My Children,” has recently opened up about her personal battle with heart disease. In a candid conversation, Lucci shared her harrowing experience with heart issues and how it has motivated her to raise awareness about cardiovascular health in women.

In 2018, Lucci experienced her first symptoms of heart disease while dining at a restaurant. She felt a slight pressure on her chest, which she initially dismissed. However, when the symptoms recurred and intensified, she knew something was wrong. With the help of a friend who had a background in nursing, Lucci was rushed to the hospital where she received a shocking diagnosis – a 90% blockage in one artery and a 75% blockage in another.

Fortunately, Lucci underwent a successful procedure to insert two stents in her coronary arteries, restoring blood flow to her heart. This experience served as a wake-up call for Lucci, who realized the importance of educating women about the signs and symptoms of heart disease. Despite leading a healthy lifestyle and staying active, Lucci’s genetic predisposition to calcium build-up contributed to her condition.

After becoming the national ambassador for the American Heart Association’s “Go Red for Women” campaign, Lucci has been vocal about the need for women to prioritize their heart health. She emphasizes that heart disease symptoms in women can be subtle and often differ from those in men. By sharing her story and advocating for heart health awareness, Lucci hopes to save lives and empower women to take charge of their cardiovascular well-being.

In addition to her advocacy work, Lucci has recently published a new memoir, “La Lucci,” which delves into her life experiences, including her battles with heart disease. This book serves as a continuation of her previous autobiography, “All My Life,” and offers readers a deeper insight into the challenges she has faced.

Through her courage and determination, Susan Lucci is shining a light on the importance of heart health and inspiring women to prioritize their well-being. Her story serves as a reminder that heart disease can affect anyone, regardless of their lifestyle, and underscores the need for awareness and proactive care.
