Eric Trump Calls For 16-Year-Old Lifeguard Who Rescued Boy From Violent California Waves to be Given Highest Civilian Honor (VIDEO)

A 16-year-old lifeguard is being celebrated as a hero after saving a 10-year-old boy from powerful waves in Santa Cruz, California, on Saturday.

Video footage captures the tense moments as the young lifeguard skillfully used his training to rescue the boy who was trapped in the turbulent waters.

During the rescue, the lifeguard persistently dived beneath the crashing waves to reach the boy.

Onlookers on the shore attempted to assist in pulling the child from the tumultuous sea.

“The waves weren’t exactly calm, but they were typical in pattern and strength,” witness Scott Vander Dussen told NBC Bay Area.

“Then suddenly, everything changed. Many were caught off-guard. Unfortunately, the young boy was quickly overwhelmed and swept away,” the witness continued.

“I’m relieved it ended well. I’m certain if the lifeguards hadn’t been there, he wouldn’t have made it home that night,” he concluded.

According to NBC Bay Area, the boy was assessed and subsequently reunited with his family.

Eric Trump has advocated for the lifeguard to receive the highest civilian distinction.

“Award this 16-year-old lifeguard the highest civilian honor. This truly showcases the best of America! Great job!” Eric Trump remarked on X.

In Santa Cruz, lifeguards must undergo a comprehensive training regimen.

“Candidates are required to complete at least 56 hours of lifeguard training, plus 24 hours of medical certification training if not already certified to Title 22 First Aid and CPR for the Professional Rescuer or higher,” the city of Santa Cruz states.

A National Weather Service Beach Hazards warning remains in effect along much of the California coast due to strong rip currents and significant swells.

Hurricane Genevieve, a category 3 storm currently active in the Eastern Pacific, is contributing to coastal flooding and large swells.
