Exploring the Maximalist World of Etro with Marco De Vincenzo

Marco De Vincenzo has always been known for his flair for the decorative, but his approach to maximalist visual excess is more kinetic and conceptual than ornate. During his time at Etro, he has delved into a different realm—one that is intuitive, feminine, and deeply rooted in a bohemian spirit. The Etro wanderer, as he describes it, is a worldly connoisseur who effortlessly blends layered references and tangled timelines. De Vincenzo has learned to embrace the auto-generative quality of Etro’s codes, noting that with just a few changes, the brand’s signature look can feel both familiar and new.

For the resort collection, De Vincenzo played with Etro’s signature mix of prints and patterns, incorporating ruching, flouncing, intricate lace intarsia, nods to the 1970s, and overprinted nylon brocade layered over flowing chiffons. Despite the potential for a cacophony of textures and colors, the collection somehow maintained a harmonious balance.

The botanical motifs that are synonymous with Etro were reimagined in denim jacquard, bicolored knits, sporty suede, crocheted surfaces, and tone-on-tone overlays. Paisley motifs subtly disappeared into the textures, creating a seamless blend of patterns and colors. De Vincenzo’s careful curation ensured that the collection remained ornamental yet not overly didactic, avoiding direct references to specific eras or ethnicities.

While the women’s collection exuded flamboyance and decadence, the menswear took a more subdued approach. Abstract and botanical motifs were incorporated into sweatshirts, zippered jackets, and double-breasted blazers, offering a tailored and refined aesthetic. However, a pajama look featuring a silk robe and floral trousers paid homage to Etro’s decorative extravagance.

This unique take on Etro’s maximalist aesthetic by Marco De Vincenzo showcases his ability to blend tradition with innovation, creating a collection that is both familiar and fresh. The intricate patterns, rich textures, and bohemian spirit of Etro are reimagined in a way that is both timeless and contemporary, appealing to the modern wanderer who seeks a sense of adventure and luxury in their wardrobe.
