Anders Vistisen, a Danish conservative member of the European Parliament, stands by his decision to tell Donald Trump to “f**k off” in response to the U.S. president’s comments about potentially acquiring Greenland, a territory long belonging to the Danish kingdom.

During an interview with CNN’s Erin Burnett, Vistisen explained his strong reaction, stating that it was unacceptable for the U.S. to claim sovereignty over territory that has been Danish for centuries. He also criticized the Danish government for not taking a firmer stance against Trump’s remarks.

Vistisen pointed out that while Trump has mentioned incorporating other territories like Canada and the Panama Canal, Denmark has been less assertive in its response compared to those countries. He dismissed criticism from his European Parliament colleagues for his choice of language.

When asked about Trump’s argument regarding increased U.S. security with Greenland, Vistisen acknowledged the concerns and emphasized that Denmark has accommodated America’s security needs in the past.

Vistisen concluded by stating that if there were any issues with his remarks, his colleagues could address them directly with him. He expressed readiness to engage in further discussions on the matter.

Watch the full interview for more insights into Vistisen’s perspective on the issue.
