Eva Longoria, known for her work in the entertainment industry, recently sat down with co-editor Cynthia Littleton on the “Daily Variety” podcast to discuss her latest project, a soccer docuseries titled “Necaxa.” This series follows Longoria as she embarks on a journey to revive Club Necaxa, a football team in Aguascalientes, Mexico. The docuseries is set to premiere on FX on August 7th and promises to offer viewers an inside look at the world of Mexican soccer.
Longoria’s interest in soccer was initially sparked when she invested in the Los Angeles Angel City FC women’s pro soccer team, which is majority owned by Disney CEO Bob Iger and Willow Bay. This experience led her to become involved with Club Necaxa, after being approached by real estate investor Al Tylis and Sam Porter, an executive at the club. Longoria was drawn to their innovative approach to investing in undervalued teams and leagues, and she quickly saw the potential in the Mexican League.
What started as an investment opportunity soon turned into a passion project for Longoria. She was inspired by the people she met at Club Necaxa and the town of Aguascalientes, which she saw as characters in their own right. Longoria’s emotional investment in the team led her to see the potential for a TV show, and she eventually teamed up with producers Rob Mac and Ryan Reynolds to bring the series to life.
Throughout the process of producing the docuseries, Longoria immersed herself in Mexican football culture and faced her fears of entering a male-dominated sport as a Mexican American woman. Despite her initial concerns, Longoria found herself welcomed with open arms by the community and embraced for her contributions to the team.
The “Necaxa” docuseries promises to be a thrilling and emotional journey, filled with drama, excitement, and the universal language of soccer. Longoria’s dedication to telling authentic stories and showcasing the beauty of Mexican culture shines through in this project, making it a must-watch for sports fans and enthusiasts alike.
