Call of Duty Black Ops Royale is an exciting new experience coming to Warzone, drawing inspiration from the original Blackout mode in Black Ops 4. This mode is set to shake things up by removing loadouts, buy stations, and the Gulag, focusing solely on survival. Activision has released a detailed blog outlining everything players need to know about this new game mode.
Here’s a breakdown of everything you can expect from Black Ops Royale in Call of Duty Warzone.
Gameplay, Weapons, and Mechanics
Black Ops Royale is a free-to-play mode set on the Avalon map, where squads of up to four players drop in using wingsuits and battle it out to be the last team standing. The mode introduces a unique weapon archetype system featuring five rarities: Common, Uncommon, Rare, Epic, and Legendary. Each weapon has a fixed build path called an Archetype, which evolves as you find Attachment Kits. These Archetypes cater to different playstyles such as stealth, close-ranged aggression, and long-range control. Additionally, players can discover rare Exotic weapons with enhanced bonuses.
Equipment and Armor System
In Black Ops Royale, players can carry two Tacticals, two Lethals, two Field Upgrades, and two Killstreaks simultaneously. The Tiered Armor Vest system makes a return, offering three levels of armor vests to reduce incoming damage. Classic items like the Grappling Hook, Sensor Dart, Trauma Kit, RC XD, and Death Machine are also making a comeback.
No Loadouts, Gulag, and Buy Stations
One of the significant changes in this mode is the absence of custom Loadouts. Players will start with a pistol, a knife, and basic armor plates. There is no in-game cash system or Gulag. However, if eliminated, players can return using a Redeployment Token or by capturing a Redeploy Tower with their team.
Consumable and Flexible Perks
Perks in Black Ops Royale are found as loot and can be stored, swapped, or activated as needed. These temporary perks grant players various abilities such as improved mobility, better survivability, faster revive speed, and reduced explosive damage. Some of the available perks include Awareness, Brawler, Engineer, Iron Lungs, and more.
Cradle Breaches and Zombie Zones
Cradle Breaches are red gas zones that spawn during matches, housing zombie hordes and high-tier loot. Inside these zones, players can encounter events like Mangler boss fights for top-tier armor and loot, or Mystery Box events offering a chance to obtain Exotic weapons.
Mobility Options
Avalon, the map for Black Ops Royale, features various terrains like city areas, open fields, and water barriers. Players can utilize wingsuits, wall jumping, and a selection of vehicles including ATVs, LTVs, Dirt bikes, Boats, and a Light helicopter for faster travel.
New Objectives and Activities
Instead of traditional contracts, Black Ops Royale introduces activities that reward players with rare loot. These activities include bounty hunts, Strongbox safe cracking for armor, Relay Antennas for UAV scans and redeploy drones, capturing Redeploy Towers, and claiming Supply Drops.
Release Date
Call of Duty Black Ops Royale is set to release on March 12, 2026, at 9 pm Pacific Time and will be available directly in Warzone. Players around the world can check the converted release date and time for their respective regions.
