Reports suggest that Lara Trump is considering running for the Senate seat left vacant by retiring Sen. Thom Tillis (R-N.C.).
However, former GOP strategist Stuart Stevens is skeptical about her chances of winning and joining Congress.
Stevens, who was the chief strategist for Mitt Romney’s 2012 presidential campaign, expressed his concerns on MSNBC, stating that Lara Trump would be a “disaster” for Republicans if she were to run.
He mentioned that while she may win the primary, she would likely be the worst candidate they could field for the general election.
Stevens highlighted that North Carolina has been a closely contested state, and he doesn’t see anything in the current political climate that would make Lara Trump more appealing to voters.
Jim Messina, Obama’s 2012 campaign manager, also shared the sentiment, predicting that Lara Trump would be a dream opponent for Democrats and would ultimately lose the seat due to her association with Donald Trump.
He emphasized that a normal candidate would be able to distance themselves from the president on certain issues, unlike Lara Trump, who would be tied to all of Trump’s actions and decisions.
Tillis, who has faced criticism from Donald Trump for opposing his policies, announced that he will not seek reelection in 2026, opting to spend more time with his family instead of navigating the political landscape in Washington.
