Former University of Michigan football coach Sherrone Moore found himself in a whirlwind of trouble after his affair with his executive assistant and mistress, Paige Shiver, came crashing down. The 39-year-old father-of-three allegedly broke into Shiver’s home, armed with butter knives and scissors, threatening to take his own life and blaming her for his downfall.
The affair, which had been ongoing for years, came to a halt when Shiver decided to end things just two days prior to the incident. Moore, who had just been terminated from his coaching position over the inappropriate relationship, couldn’t handle the rejection and spiraled out of control.
Shiver reported the affair to the University of Michigan’s athletic department when Moore wouldn’t stop contacting her, despite her attempts to ignore him. The school promptly fired Moore, citing the inappropriate relationship without naming Shiver.
During Moore’s arraignment, prosecutors detailed how he threatened Shiver, accusing her of ruining his life and vowing to make her watch him commit suicide. Fortunately, Shiver was able to alert the authorities before any harm was done, leading to Moore’s arrest and subsequent booking into jail.
Moore now faces charges of felony home invasion, stalking, and breaking and entering, with a possible five-year sentence if convicted. Despite his lawyer’s assurances of Moore’s ties to the community and family, a judge set his bond at $25,000 and imposed strict conditions for his release, including a GPS monitor and no contact with Shiver.
The disgraced coach appeared in court wearing jail garb, showing little emotion as he answered the judge’s questions. His next court date is set for January 22, where he will have to face the consequences of his actions.
Despite the turmoil, Moore’s lawyer emphasized that his client had never been in trouble with the law before and underwent a mental health evaluation following his arrest. Moore is expected to post bond soon, but the repercussions of his actions will likely follow him for a long time.
As the dust settles on this scandal, the once-celebrated coach’s future remains uncertain. The Citrus Bowl against the University of Texas looms ahead, but without Moore at the helm, the team will have to navigate the game without their former leader. Only time will tell how Moore’s fall from grace will impact his career and personal life moving forward.
