The study also highlighted the structural and morphological changes in D. radiodurans cells subjected to different pressure levels. While cells exposed to lower pressures showed minimal damage, those subjected to higher pressures exhibited internal and cell wall damage, indicating the organism’s threshold for survival.

These findings have significant implications for our understanding of the extreme limits of life, planetary protection, and the design of space missions. The possibility of life surviving impact-induced ejection and planetary dispersal opens up new avenues for exploration and raises questions about the origins of life on Earth and beyond.
