CELEBRATING A HISTORIC PARTNERSHIP: As President Donald J. Trump and First Lady Melania Trump wrap up their unprecedented Second State Visit to the United Kingdom, the United States emphasizes its commitment to the enduring special relationship with this pivotal ally—an alliance built on decades of shared experiences, mutual values, and a vision for a brighter future.

  • In a remarkable distinction, President Trump has become the first American president to receive two British State Visits.
  • The relationship between the United States and the United Kingdom is unparalleled globally, symbolizing deep-rooted friendship and unwavering solidarity.
  • President Trump remarked, “Throughout the ages, American and British heroes have fought side by side to defend freedom and liberty. Thus, it’s crucial for the U.S. and the UK to uphold these fundamental rights and shared principles of the English-speaking community.”

DRIVING INNOVATION THROUGH THE TECH PROSPERITY DEAL: During this visit, President Trump and Prime Minister Keir Starmer inked the Technology Prosperity Deal (TPD), a groundbreaking science and technology framework that aims to elevate the U.S.-UK relationship into the next technological frontier.

  • This Agreement commits both nations to collaborate on future-focused technologies, such as AI, quantum computing, and nuclear energy.
    • The TPD introduces a premier AI for Science research initiative involving the U.S. Departments of Energy, Health, and the National Science Foundation collaborating with their UK counterparts to advance pioneering biotechnology and precision medicine.
    • Additionally, it brings together the U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission, the UK Office for Nuclear Regulation, and the UK Environment Agency to optimize and expedite the licensing process, aiming for reactor design reviews within two years and site licenses in one year.
  • In pursuit of energy independence, the UK will complement U.S. efforts, working towards complete detachment from Russian nuclear fuel by the end of 2028.
  • With an anticipated $350 billion in joint commercial outcomes, the TPD will bolster economic development, scientific inquiry, and energy security for both countries.
    • The UK government has pledged over $80 billion in purchases from American tech and defense firms over the next five years, which includes partnerships with tech giants like Microsoft and Palantir.
    • British pharmaceutical company GSK has announced a commitment of $30 billion towards AI research and development in the U.S.
    • Moreover, BP is set to invest upwards of $5 billion in energy initiatives primarily targeting the Gulf of America.
  • The TPD is expected to generate thousands of jobs, enhance energy affordability, and ensure that both nations maintain a lead in global science and technology innovation.

STRENGTHENING DEFENSE COLLABORATION: Prior to President Trump’s visit, the UK awarded a substantial $540 million contract to Google Cloud, aiming to enhance the Ministry of Defence’s capabilities and stimulate innovation.

  • Moreover, the U.S. Defense Innovation Unit (DIU) and the UK Defence Innovation Organisation (UKDI) established a joint declaration of intent focused on advancing a new generation of strategic partnerships in defense innovation, aimed at enhancing synergies through prototyping of essential emerging technologies from the private sector.
  • Both nations will engage in joint research and development efforts designed to fortify their defense industries and remain competitive in the rapidly evolving landscape of technology.
