New Jersey Home Explodes After Flash Flooding

A New Jersey home in North Plainfield caught fire and exploded overnight, but fortunately, no one was injured as the family had already evacuated due to flash flooding warnings.

The incident occurred on Parkview Avenue as heavy downpours wreaked havoc on the area, with the home collapsing just before 11:25 p.m. on Monday.

Firefighters arrived at the scene to find the house engulfed in flames, and initially, the four residents were missing. They were later found safe, having evacuated earlier when flash-flood alerts were issued for the neighborhood.

Remnants of the leveled home were scattered across the street as floodwaters engulfed the area, causing damage to neighboring homes as well.

While the cause of the explosion remains unclear, reports of gas complaints in the neighborhood were recorded at the time.

New Jersey Governor Phil Murphy had declared a state of emergency due to the torrential rain and flash floods, urging residents to stay indoors and avoid unnecessary travel.

In other parts of the Garden State, cars and emergency vehicles in towns like Somerville and Plainsville were overwhelmed by floodwaters, with some roads resembling raging rivers.

Although most flash flood watches and warnings had expired in New Jersey as the rain subsided, some roads and streets remained flooded as of early Tuesday.
