The tragic case of the University of Idaho student Ethan Chapin and his three classmates who were viciously killed by Bryan Kohberger has left a lasting impact on their families and the community. Stacy Chapin, Ethan’s mother, recently spoke out for the first time since Kohberger’s sentencing, expressing her belief that “the outcome is the right one.”

In an emotional Instagram post, Stacy Chapin shared memories of her son, highlighting his joyful presence and the love he brought to their family. She described Ethan as the glue that held their family together and expressed the pain of losing him at just 20 years old.

The Chapin family chose not to attend Kohberger’s sentencing hearing, opting to find closure in the guilty plea that spared their surviving children from reliving the trauma of their brother’s death. Ethan’s father, Jim Chapin, expressed relief that Kohberger was off the streets and unable to harm any more children.

While the Chapin family found solace in the plea deal, the families of the other victims had mixed feelings. Some disagreed with the decision, feeling that it prevented proper justice from being served. During Kohberger’s sentencing hearing, family members delivered emotional victim impact statements, condemning him for his heinous crimes.

Alivea Goncalves, the sister of one of the victims, labeled Kohberger a “pedophile” and a “sociopath,” confronting him in court for his cowardly attack on the victims while they slept. Despite the pain of losing her daughter, Xana Kernodle’s mother, Cara Northington, found the strength to forgive Kohberger, acknowledging that Jesus had allowed her to do so.

Throughout the trial and sentencing, the Chapin family expressed gratitude for the support they received from investigators, prosecutors, University of Idaho staff, and loved ones. They vowed to continue honoring Ethan’s legacy and cherish the memories they shared with him.

As the community grapples with the aftermath of this senseless tragedy, the families of the victims strive to find closure and healing, knowing that their loved ones will never be forgotten.
