The FBI made a significant development in the case of Nancy Guthrie’s disappearance, as they recently arrested an individual connected to a fake ransom demand. This revelation was disclosed during a press conference held on Thursday.

Heith Janke, the special agent in charge of FBI Phoenix, collaborated with the Pima County Sheriff’s Department to address the suspected kidnapping of Guthrie. Guthrie, who is the 84-year-old mother of “Today” show anchor Savannah Guthrie, was last seen on the evening of January 31.

Despite the arrest made in relation to the ransom demand, no arrests have been made in connection with Guthrie’s disappearance. Pima County Sheriff Chris Nanos stated during the press conference that there are currently no suspects or persons of interest in the case. The sheriff’s department, along with federal assistance from the FBI, has been diligently searching for Guthrie since she went missing. She was last spotted at her residence in Tucson, Arizona on January 31 and was reported missing when she failed to attend her usual church service the following day.

On Tuesday, TMZ received a ransom note demanding a substantial amount of money in Bitcoin. While law enforcement is taking the ransom note seriously, they have also received false demands from individuals posing as the perpetrators. Janke warned these imposters that they will be investigated and held accountable for their actions. The FBI has already made one arrest in connection to the case and will be presenting a complaint to a magistrate judge.

The ransom note received by TMZ had a deadline of 5 p.m. on Thursday, with a more serious deadline set for the upcoming Monday. The investigation into Guthrie’s disappearance continues, with authorities working tirelessly to uncover the truth behind her vanishing.
