WASHINGTON — Senators were briefed by Food and Drug Administration officials on the agency’s 2026 food policy plans, as reported by a person familiar with the meeting.

According to a document shared with lawmakers and obtained by STAT, the FDA intends to prioritize several key areas: enhancing the safety of infant formula, revising food labeling, defining ultra-processed foods, increasing inspections of food processing facilities, and strengthening seafood safety initiatives.

This briefing reflects a broader shift in the administration’s health priorities, moving focus from vaccine policies to food-related issues. Recent polls indicate that food reforms are resonating more with the public than vaccine-related agendas, drawing the attention of administration officials keen to refine their message in preparation for the midterm elections.
