In a notable development for supporters of peptides and health secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr., a Food and Drug Administration advisory panel suggested on Thursday that compounding pharmacies should be permitted to produce the drugs BPC-157, KPV, TB-500, and MOTS-c.

The FDA panel is set to consider additional compounds in a vote on Friday.

Although these votes are advisory in nature, the FDA will ultimately make the decision on whether to remove existing restrictions on these peptides, potentially making them more accessible to those seeking to use these popular yet under-researched drugs for health improvement. While it is rare for the FDA to diverge from the Pharmacy Compounding Advisory Committee’s (PCAC) recommendations, there has been at least one precedent of this occurring.
