The U.S. Department of Homeland Security recently announced a new initiative to incentivize self-deportation with a $1,000 stipend. This move comes after President Donald Trump hinted at such a program a few weeks ago. DHS Secretary Kristi Noem also mentioned that the agency is looking into funding plane tickets for those who voluntarily choose to leave the country.

The program, called the CBP Home App, aims to assist illegal aliens in returning to their home countries. The app, previously known as CBP One under the Biden administration, now requires all illegal foreign nationals to register with the federal government. Failure to self-deport could result in fines of up to $1,000 per day.

According to DHS, thousands have already utilized the CBP Home app for self-deportation. In addition to travel assistance, individuals who use the app will also receive a $1,000 stipend upon confirming their arrival in their home country.

DHS emphasizes that self-deportation is a more dignified and cost-effective way for illegal aliens to leave the U.S. It allows them to avoid encounters with ICE agents, saving taxpayers an estimated 70% compared to the cost of arrest, detention, and deportation. Under the Biden administration, over 14 million illegal border crossers were reported, with nearly 700,000 criminal foreign nationals on an ICE removal docket.

The success of the travel assistance program is evident, with cases of illegal aliens utilizing the app to book flights back to their home countries. Noem urges illegal foreign nationals to consider self-deportation as the safest option to avoid arrest and save costs for both law enforcement and taxpayers.

Those who express their intent to self-deport via the CBP Home app will be deprioritized for detention and removal as long as they show progress in completing their departure. This may also preserve their option to legally re-enter the U.S. in the future.

Illegal foreign nationals who qualify for the program are encouraged to submit their “Intent to Depart” using the CBP Home app. This initiative aims to streamline the deportation process and provide a more humane and efficient way for individuals to return to their home countries.

Overall, the new self-deportation program offers a unique opportunity for illegal aliens to leave the U.S. voluntarily, with financial assistance and support through the CBP Home App.
