Ferran Torres, a forward for Barcelona, has decided to remain with the club despite limited playing time in recent matches. Earlier in the season, under Hansi Flick, the Spaniard was a more frequent starter.

This season, Torres has netted 16 goals and provided one assist in 39 appearances across all competitions. In the UEFA Champions League Round of 16, he was not included in the starting lineup for either leg, with Hansi Flick opting for Robert Lewandowski instead. Torres also stayed on the bench during Barcelona’s recent LaLiga match against Sevilla. Meanwhile, reports indicate that Barcelona is in the market for a new striker this summer.

According to Cadena SER, Ferran Torres intends to stay at Barcelona and does not plan to leave the club soon. Despite his dissatisfaction with reduced playing time, he aims to secure a starting position. However, to achieve this, Torres needs to improve his performance as Barcelona is reportedly seeking a new striker.

The report also mentions that Torres is displeased with Barcelona’s intention to offer a new contract to Robert Lewandowski, who was rumored to be leaving this summer. Newly re-elected president Joan Laporta has stated otherwise, expressing a desire to renew Lewandowski’s contract. This could further limit Torres’ playing time, especially if the club acquires another striker this summer.

There are reports linking Barcelona to a potential acquisition of Julian Alvarez from Atletico Madrid. However, this deal is financially complex and would require significant player departures to facilitate any new signings.

In an interview with RAC1 (via SPORT), Barcelona president Joan Laporta expressed his wish for Robert Lewandowski to extend his contract with the club. Despite being 38 years old, Lewandowski remains a key player for the Catalans this season. Laporta remarked:

“The idea is for Deco to renew his contract. He deserves it. He came to Bayern in a very difficult situation. I remember his presentation in Miami. If he wants to stay, because his contract is expiring, we’d like him to. He’s accepted the role he’s been given, and it works well with Ferran Torres. I hope he wants to continue and that it happens.”

Laporta’s remarks come amid rumors of Lewandowski’s potential exit this summer due to his age and waning form. However, Laporta also addressed the possibility of signing a new striker in the upcoming transfer window.

“With Ferran and Lewandowski, the position is covered. If it needs strengthening, it will be. There are already strikers. Harry Kane would be the same age as Lewandowski [when he joined Barca],” he said.

Harry Kane has been performing exceptionally well at Bayern Munich, but there are no indications of him seeking a transfer. The situation regarding transfers will become clearer after the 2026 FIFA World Cup, alongside the future plans for the current squad.
