In a shocking turn of events, a white van pulled over, and two individuals emerged with a rocket launcher, targeting the mayor’s Toyota Land Cruiser with a grenade. The RPG exploded under the armored car, creating a fireball and a cloud of smoke, but the vehicle managed to escape to safety.
Mayor Akmad Ampatuan survived the attack, while two of his security guards sustained minor injuries. This incident marks the fourth assassination attempt against Mayor Ampatuan.
Following the attack, the perpetrators engaged in a shootout with the Philippine National Police and the Philippine Army in a nearby area. Three out of four individuals involved in the attack were killed, with one still at large.
