A spokesperson from Fire and Emergency New Zealand (Fenz) stated that emergency services were notified about the fire in the Moonlight Track area around 4:30 pm. Initially, seven fire appliances from Arrowtown, Queenstown, and Frankton were dispatched to the scene.
The fire quickly spread to approximately 100m x 100m, and there were concerns about the safety of the housing in the vicinity. While the fire has been contained, it is still uncertain whether the housing is completely out of danger.
Currently, the number of fire appliances at the scene is being reduced. One helicopter and six fire trucks are actively working to extinguish the flames. Fenz is closely monitoring the situation and awaiting further updates.
